3. ORTHO-K WHAT IS IT AND WHO IS IT FOR? Orthokeratology, shortened to Ortho-K, is a non-surgical system that temporarily improves the condition of refractive vision issues when used as directed. Myopia, or nearsightedness, is a refractive vision issue that causes people to have difficulty seeing objects when they are far away, caused by a lengthening of the eyeball. Ortho K uses custom fit contact lenses to reshape the cornea when worn overnight.

4. HOW DOES ORTHO-KCONTROL MYOPIA IN CHILDREN? In many children, myopia can progress to be more and more severe until the age that their growth and development stops. Severe myopia is not only difficult to manage, it can lead to ongoing vision problems and eye diseases in the future. This is why Golden Vision uses Ortho-K to slow or even stop the progression if myopia in children, a practice we call myopia control.

We use the latest fitting technology to make custom lenses to fit the unique shape and curvature of a patient’s eye, and Gold Lenses are approved for up to 16 hours of overnight use. The current industry standard lens to treat refractive vision issues as part of the Ortho-K system is Corneal Refractive Therapy (CRT).
