  1. FIFA WORLD CUP 2010 By Amal Dualeh

  2. The World Cup 2010 • 1. The FIFA World Cup 2010 was held in South Africa in the cities of Johannesburg (JSC and JEP), Cape Town. Durban, Nelson Mandela Bay, Pretoria, Nelspruit, Rustenburg, Bloemfontein, and Polokwane. The competition kicked off on June 11th, 2010 with South Africa playing against Mexico, and ended with the finals on July 11th, 2010.

  3. Who were the finalists? • 2. The finalists of the 2010 World Cup were Spain and The Netherlands. Spain won by a miraculous point after extra time had been gave. Score: Spain 1,Netherlands 0.

  4. What was the scoring sequence? • 3. A. The scoring sequence was mainly near misses by Netherlands’ Arjen Robben, and high kicks from Spain’s David Villa. But in the end it was the beautiful pass of Fabregas to Iniesta, who shot the ball straight into the goal! And with only 3 minutes to spare, most knew that Spain were the World Cup Champions.

  5. About the Goal B. There was only one goal, and Spain’s Andreas Iniesta shot it. Cesc Fabregas stole the ball from the Netherlands’ Braafheid and headed towards the goal and made a pass to Iniesta, who made a beautiful side-footed kick into the goal at the 116th minute. Spain then knew that they won their first World Cup!

  6. What could have the defense have done to stop the goal? C. The goalie of Netherlands could have prevented the goal by not sliding under Iniesta, but instead he could have side tackled him and shoot the ball away. As well, Braafheid (#5 on the Dutch team) could have tried to be in front of Fabregas to steal the ball, instead of behind Fabregas, because then it would have been easier to get the ball to likely Netherland players that could make a goal like Arjen Robben.

  7. What skills have been used by the attacking team? D. Skills used by the Spanish team were: • The side-footed shot of Iniesta used to make the goal. • The good handling of Fabregas who prevented Braafheid of the Netherlands to not get a hold of the ball. • Distractions made by other players of the team to move the Dutch away from the ball.

  8. Was there movement ‘off the ball’ by the other attacking players and what was the effect? E. Yes, there were distractions made by other Spanishteammates to keep the Dutch away from players that were likely to shoot, like Fabregas, Torres and Iniesta. The effect of this was that it was very easy to make a goal-likely shot because there weren’t many Dutch players near the goal to help Maarten Stekelenburg (goalie and #24 on the Dutch team) keep the ball from scoring.

  9. My experience! • Watching the World Cup 2010 live was an amazing experience for me, seeing the loud crowds, the vuvuzelas being horned, having my Spanish jersey on and shouting “GO SPAIN!!!” was just so amazing, it’s hard to describe. The best part of the game for me was when I saw the beautiful goal made by Iniesta, and when Shakira came out in the beginning to sing the official 2010 World Cup song “WakaWaka”. It was an amazing experience I’ll never forget!
