Three Person Mechanics(See manual) Positions = R / L / U Kickoff Positions L with K; U with R; R deep and in middle Scrimmage Play L on line (no change) has responsibility for entire line R in backfield on wide side of field – covers sideline (U “turns and looks inside – out) U wider and deeper – line play and passes to his side “Goal line” coverage (or critical first down situation) U comes up to line of scrimmage
Three Person Mechanics (Cont.) Punts U = very deep with receivers R = wide in backfield (roughing snapper) L = same positioning Scoring Kicks (regardless of location) R has through / over / under L has kicker holder U has snapper and is then responsible for goal line (touchback call) Counting Players R = Offense U = Defense
Two Person Mechanics Positions = R and L Kickoff Positions L with K; R with R (on 50 if short anticipated; deeper if normal – adjust to level of play) Scrimmage Play L on line has responsibility for entire line R in backfield on wide side of field – covers backfield and sideline “Goal line” coverage (or critical first down situation) R comes up to line of scrimmage

Punts L = start on line and very quickly get down field R = wide in backfield (all roughing) Scoring Kicks (regardless of location) R has through as well as over / under L has all roughing and is responsible to go deep if goal line is threatened Counting Players R = Offense L = Defense
