  2. Valuable resources • Norway is a major, stable and reliable supplier of energy (oil, gas, hydropower); • And as a significant oil and gas producer we have a particular environmental responsibility – which we take very seriously.

  3. Hydropower • About 99% of Norway’s total power production is based on hydropower; • Renewable energy accounts for more than 60% of Norway’s total energy use.

  4. Energy from the sea • The salt water is being used by Statkrafts osmotic power prototype; • Osmotic power is clean, renewable energy.

  5. Our vision • Environment and development are linked; • Poverty can in itself constitute a threat to the environment.

  6. The Government has developed a coherent environmental and development policy: • Enhance its role as a driving force for greener development and as a bridge-builder; • Intensify its efforts to promote greener development; • Become a driving force in the establishment of global systems for maintaining ecosystem services; • Continue to facilitate adaptation.

  7. Norway and Bulgaria - partners in the European Economic Area and in the Energy Sector • Working actively to share knowledge in the energy sector; • Development of knowledge-based strategic approaches to good governance and sustainable energy; • Securing a reliable and sustainable energy supply.

  8. Protecting the environment • “Green funding” – protecting the environment; • The programme Green Industry Innovation aims to improve the environment; • 9 Norwegian companies are coming to Bulgaria.

  9. 2 of totally 15 EEA and Norway Grants programmes focus on Green energy Green industry innovation Allocation 13 699 mil. Euro Programme operator: Innovation Norway Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Allocation 13 260 mil. Euro Programme operator: Ministry of Economy and Energy

  10. A good example • The project was implemented in a partnership between the Bulgarian Ministry of Economy, Energy and Tourism and the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE); • The main objective of the project was to continue the development of the Bulgarian power market.
