Lewis Howard Latimer • Born: September 4, 1848 Died: December 11, 1928 • Was an African American Inventor and draftsman • Latimer was credited with an improved process for creating a carbon filament • This would help light bulbs last longer
Granville Woods • Born: April 23, 1856 Died: January 30, 1910 • Invented the Electromagnetic brake for railroad trains and street cars • Many of Woods inventions attempted to increase efficiency and safety railroad cars, Woods developed the concept of a third rail which would allow a train to receive more electricity while also encountering less friction
