  1. A better way to decision by Symmetri Konsult AB V 1.5

  2. What is OPIUS? OPIUS is a qualitative model for analysis, developed by Symmetri Konsult AB to be used as a tool in the initial phases of an organisation’s work of change.

  3. What is OPIUS? OPIUS is a qualitative model for analysis, developed by Symmetri Konsult AB to be used as a tool in the initial phases of an organisation’s work of change. The objective with carrying out an OPIUS analysis is to, in a short time span, identify areas of improvement, weaknesses and strengths, as well as produce prioritised suggestions for improvements.

  4. Organisation Processes Information System Users The OPIUS Focus Areas • OPIUS stands for: • Organisation • Processes • Information • Users • System • It evaluates these focus areas, as well as the relations between them. The tool aims for delivering an overall picture, which creates a good basis for decisions, before the actual development work commences.

  5. The OPIUS Focus Areas • OPIUS stands for: • Organisation • Processes • Information • Users • System • It evaluates these focus areas, as well as the relations between them. The tool aims for delivering an overall picture, which creates a good basis for decisions, before the actual development work commences. • Every customer’s situation is unique. This means that also each OPIUS analysis is unique in focus, orientation and scope, since the balance between the different focus areas differ from case to case. The method is however always the same and is founded on well tested and proven methods for qualitative research.

  6. OPIUS – The Connectors Organisation The connectors help us to more substantially define what we are mapping in the analysis. Operations Production Management Roles Processes Processes Information Routines Presentation (Processes) Responsibility Information Users Communication User Requirement /Satisfaction Usage Users System GUI Work flow Format Storage Production Distribution Publishing Support Tools

  7. Easy to understand Recommendations Short Answer for your purpose OPIUS: Overall Process Decide Purposes & Objectives Planning Adapt questions Choose participants Investigate Processes Organisation Interviews Information Users System Describe the results Identify strengths and areas of improvements Analysis Conclusions

  8. Customer Case – ITT Flygt Mapping the process for developing product information Key personnel were interviewed, in order to map the different, interacting processes, when the documentation for pumps and other products is developed. The purpose was to create a basis for decisions, before the implementation of a new CM tool. The result was presented in a report, including flowcharts and mapping according to the OPIUS model. Effects • The current organisation was adjusted to the new knowledge • Several roles changed scope and responsibilities • Some co-workers received further training • The processes for developing and maintaining the documentation were reviewed

  9. Customer Case – Sollentuna Municipality Mapping and analysis of the municipality's web organisation and information management The analysis were carried out before the municipality started a larger project which would create substantial changes in its information management. The result gave the project team and other stakeholders a clearer image of the actual situation, which had direct consequences on the activities in the project. One of the effects was one of the main managers' decision to provide the stakeholders with a more thorough pre-study. Also, a project designed to re-organise the organisation around the web site was initiated.

  10. Customer Case – Sandvik SRP Mapping of the company's work processes with regards to documentation and adjacent, important areas The results revealed areas in the work flow, where information had a tendency to fall between chairs or never reached intended recipient. Apart from this, the analysis produced a number of examples of key figures, in order to estimate ROIs on the implementation of a new documentation system.

  11. Right efforts save time and resources The world is constantly changing, which means we need to constantly renew and improve ourselves, as well. This regardless if it’s about our organisation, processes or information management. We do this in order to respond to the demands and expectations the surrounding world puts on us. OPIUS gives you an effective basis, in order to prioritise and make the decision for right efforts in the right moment.
