  3. Objective Of the presentation: • To request support for alignment and oversight by the Exeter Conservation Commission Of the project: • To provide a space where Exeter residents can grow their own fruits, vegetables and flowers for personal consumption

Proposal • Identify a target community for use of a public garden • Create Gardening Committee – overseen by ConComm • Identify property within Exeter for gardening use • Prepare the property for use for the 2010 growing season • Tilled • Plots metered out • Water accessibility • Ample parking • Gardening “by-laws”

Community Benefits • Nutrition – mind, body and soul • Health – healthy eating, outdoor activities, exercise • Well-being – sense of accomplishment, pride, abundance • Community – new friendships, sharing, partnership • Publicity - Addition to the many ammenties already available to Exeter residents

  6. Interest Targets • Condo communities • Rental tenants • Small acreage owners • Shady or wetland property owners • Adult community residents

Proposed Sites Raynes Farm • Advantages • Immediately available • Tilling agreement • Disadvantages • Located on a side hill • Appears to be partially wet • Limited parking • Water accessibility challenged • Distance from town • Unknown soil quality Little River Practice Field • Advantages • Distance from town • Irrigation available • Parking capabilities • Located near future community center prime for long term partnerships • Disadvantages • Unknown soil quality • Legalities in progress

Target Dates • Conservation Commission Presentation – 1/12 • Soil testing - tbd • Request for Gardening Committee members publicized – 1/15 • Gardening Committee public meeting – week of 1/25 • Property Approved – 2/12 (next conservation commission mtg) • GC Mtg – week of 2/15 • Defining “by-laws” • Size of plots • Plot rental property • Garden opening • ConComm approval of GC activities – March mtg • Public announcement and applications for plot renters – tbd • Gardening Begins!
