Area Codes and Population Density The area code of Crozet, Virginia is 434. Generally, there are a limited amount of telephone numbers per area code. If an area has a large population density, the area code will only cover a small portion of the area, as telephone numbers will easily run out in a populated area. If an area has a small population density, the area code will cover a large amount of space because telephone numbers will not run out so quickly and therefore the area code can cover more space. Hence, this area code map of Virginia suggests that the Crozet area has a relatively small population density because the area code 434 covers a large amount of space compared to other areas such as the Virginia Beach area and the Arlington area.
Businesses and Cardinal Directions Out of all the listed businesses in Crozet, only 5 use a cardinal direction as part of the business name, and all 5 of these businesses use the term West. These businesses include Georgetown West Day Spa, Western Albemarle High School, and Western Ridge, the neighborhood where I used to live. Crozet is in the western part of Albemarle County, so this shows that businesses in Crozet classify themselves as being located in the western part of the county.
Restaurants and Ethnicities There are a couple of restaurants in the small city of Crozet, out of which most restaurants are American. There is one Mexican restaurant, La Cocina Del Sol, one Thai restaurant called Bangkok ‘99, one Chinese restaurant called New China, and one Italian restaurant called Anne’s Italian Restaurant. Other than these few restaurants, the rest are American cafes and restaurants and many pizza shops. This shows that the majority of the population in Crozet is American in ethnicity. My favorite place to go when I lived in Crozet was Crozet Pizza.
Restaurant Map and Ethnic Neighborhoods in the Charlottesville/Crozet City Region Although in Crozet there are only a few ethnic restaurants, there are many clusters of different cultural restaurants in the Charlottesville/Crozet city region. Many of these clusters directly relate to the surrounding ethnic populations and neighborhoods in which they are located. For example, the Mexican cluster of restaurants is located in an area in which Hispanics account for about 5.1% of the population, which is relatively high compared to other surrounding areas where Hispanics account for barely any amount of the population. This relationship is similar to the areas where the cluster of Chinese restaurants is located, which has an Asian population that accounts for about 2.5% of the population which is relatively higher than surrounding areas that barely have any Asian population.
Ethnic Associations The ethnic groups with the most restaurants also have the most related associations. For example, an association called Hiromi T’aiChi which teaches the ancient Chinese martial art T’ai Chi Ch’uanis located in the Charlottesville/Crozet area. It is located nearby to the cluster of Chinese restaurants. Other examples include a Hindu Temple located near the Indian Restaurants, and the Islamic Society of Central Virginia mosque located between the two Afghani restaurants. This proves that different areas in the city region have many different ethnicities, and the local restaurants and associations cater accordingly to them.
Overall, the telephone directory of Crozet city area is a great geographical source that tells me a lot about the population density of the area, the relative location of the city in the region, and generally provides a rough idea of what ethnic groups exist in my community.
