About SeñoraSardo… • From Buffalo, NY (near Niagara Falls) • Graduated from Daemen College in 2012 with a Master of Science in Adolescent Education • Obtained New York State Teaching Certification in 2012, Spanish grades 7-12 • Graduated from The University at Buffalo in 2010, Bachelor of Arts in Spanish, Education minor • Married to Mr. Sardo, CTE Teacher at JCMS • Passionate about helping young people realize their potential and take steps toward having a healthy life • Hobbies: cooking and baking, reading biographies, crafting, going for walks, playing tennis, watching documentaries, going on road trips, playing the guitar and singing, writing music, and playing with Mindy (puppy seen to the right!) • Hero: Jesus • Favorite quotes: • “Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react” • “Love keeps no record of wrongs…” • “Baby steps!”
Why learn Spanish? • Approximately 350 million people speak Spanish around the globe • Be able to communicate with millions of Spanish speakers! • Increase your marketability to potential employers who need bilingual employees • Hispanic cultures are rich in: • history • tradition • food • art • music • dance • Learning Spanish will help you to understand English more • Grammar (components of a proper sentence), syntax (word order)
In our Spanish class, we will learn to… • use the language to engage in interpersonal communication. • understand words and concepts presented in the language. • use the language to present information to an audience. • compare the students’ culture and the target culture. Supplies needed for Spanish class… • 1 package of 5 tab dividers • pens (black or blue ink only) • 1 package of three hole, lined paper • colored pencils • 1 pair of scissors • 1 glue stick
Rules and procedures in our class… • Be on time (in seat = on time) • Be prepared (with all supplies and assignments due) • Follow all procedures as directed by SeñoraSardo and as stated in the NHS Student Handbook
Consequences for not following rules and procedures… • Verbal/written warning • Call home, detention next day, and office referral level I • Office referral level II • Office referral level III
