6 Categories of Risk Behaviors Behaviors that result in unintentional and intentional injuries ex. Seatbelts, guns, helmets, sunscreen, fights, not going to dentist Tobacco Use Alcohol and other drug use Sexual behaviors that result in HIV infection, STD’s, and pregnancy. Diet choices that contribute to disease Lack of physical activity
Common Risk Behaviors among Indiana High School Students • 1 in 5 had packed a weapon • More than half had tried cigarettes • Nearly half had had sex • 1 in 7 weighed too much • 1 in 14 had tried killing themselves
Self – responsibility: being responsible and making it a priority to avoid risk behaviors. ex. Important to not take drugs Self-discipline: following through with your intentions ex. Want to lose weight so exercise and eat healthier
