Scholarship Application Process • Front Page of Application should take 5 - 10 minutes to complete • Student’s name • Student’s address, telephone number, email address • Student’s high school • Grade • List of other students on the proposed team • Title, Abstract, Uses of the proposed invention • Student’s and Parent’s/Guardian’s signature • Call Attorneys Dave Gomes (617-345-3267) or Anne Pareti (617-345-3732) with questions

Report Format • Title • Name of participant on each page • List of the single participant or joint participants • Purpose/Field of Invention • Background • Summary of the invention • Detailed description of invention, includes drawings with all parts and key features labeled • Prototypes or models are optional • $100 limit to spend on materials, including model • Reports and models (optional) must be submitted by February 28, 2007
Review Process • 4 - 6 Reviewers • Possible reviewers are patent attorneys, entrepreneurs, and educators • Reports will be submitted by February 28, 2007 • Winner will be notified by March 21, 2007
Patent Application Process • A patent attorney at Burns & Levinson LLP will prepare the patent application • Start with the winning report • Winner will work closely with a patent attorney • Draft claims that legally protect the invention • Patent application preparation and U.S. Patent and Trade Office examination process takes 2-3 years • License invention to a company if patent issues • No guarantee that a patent will issue or a license agreement can be entered into
