Workplace Safety / Weapons Policies • Generally speaking, these bills (with the exception of the Illinois bill): • Restrict most employers’ rights to establish workplace safety policies prohibiting employees from bringing weapons onto an employer’s place of business; • Limit an employer’s ability to exercise his or her individual rights as a property owner to determine what’s best for his or her establishment; and • Could subject employers to criminal penalties and fines, as well as civil actions and damages brought as a result of a death or injury to an employee or customer caused by a firearm.
