Grievances. Employee Rights. Public employees have the right to present grievances concerning: Wages Hours of employment Conditions of work either individually or through a representative that does not have the right to strike. Grievances must be filled within a timely fashion.

BISD Grievance steps • Informal meeting to resolve the issue. • Formal meeting to resolve the issue (must be in written). • Issue presented to Assistant Superintendent. • Issue presented to Superintendent.
BISD Grievance steps • Grievance presented to school board • Legal action can be taken to resolve the matter only after all of the aforementioned steps have been exhausted. • It is also important to keep accurate records of the steps taken during the grievance process. If it was not mentioned in the Grievance you can not legally pursue the matter.
Employee Grievances • Assignments and reassignments • Appointments of extra duty • Salary and extra pay • The wording of reprimands and or other written communications (Teacher Appraisal System) (superintendent or someone that could make a decision.) . • If an employee is terminated and have no other way of appealing this decision, he or she can file a grievance.
District Rights • A district has 3 options: • It may consider the substance of the grievance that is, stop, look, and listen and not respond. • It may consider the grievance and act upon it. • It may consider the grievance and deny • In no event can a district fail to consider a grievance concerning a condition of work.
