key The daughter may not like to be watched over by her parents at home. And she may consider that her parents are too wordy when they speak over and over the same thing to her. On the other hand, the parents may not be in favor of her daughter’s hair style and weird clothes of fashion. Besides, the daughter and the parents don’t like the music enjoyed by the other. Structure Analysis Main Idea of the Text The story “A Busy Weekday Morning” was centered upon the conflicts between Sandy and her parents over her favorite music, dresses, make-up and other minor things.
Main Idea of Part I (Paras. 1-4) Direct conflicts between Sandy and her father over her favorite music. Main Idea of Part II (Paras. 5-7) Sandy took a shower and got ready to have her breakfast. (过渡段)
Main Idea of Part III (Paras. 8-25) Sandy and her mother were in disagreement over several minor things, such as eating, teeth-brushing, dressing, and makeup. Main Idea of Part IV (Paras.26) As she hurried to the school bus, Sandy missed her brother at college, with whom she often shared her feelings.
Major writing techniques: Narration Sequence of Time and Space Narration through Dialogue
1. Narration (叙事法) The device “narration” is employed in describing how Sandy got up (Para. 1), took her bath (Para. 5), dressed herself (Para. 6), ate her breakfast (Para.7), and what she thought of when she hurried to the school bus (Para. 26). For example
Sandy walked into the bathroom and turned on the shower. At first, the water felt cold. It helped her wake up. Then, as the water got hotter, she thought, “This shower feels great and in here I can be alone and sing. No one disturbs me in here.” she grabbed the soap and washed thoroughly, including her hair.
