2. Our Animal Is The Porcupine The Porcupine has thousands of pointy quills that make them look hairy. The porcupine can be black or different shades of brown. When full grown, the porcupine is about the size of a grown up raccoon.

3. About the babies Porcupines babies are called porcupettes. The female porcupine can only give birth to one porcupette at a time. The porcpettes’ quills are soft at birth. But, they harden up after an hour.

4. The porcupines habitat Porcupines live in the woods in hollow logs, in rain forests, prairies, and rocky mountain areas.

5. Porcupines diet Porcupines will eat almost anything salty. Sometimes they chew canoe paddles off! Porcupines will eat the bark of oak trees and white pine bark.

6. The porcupines predators The porcupines predators are Fishers (part of the weasel family), Martens, Wolverines, Pythons, Eagles, Great Horned Owls, and Wolves.

7. The porcupines protection The porcupine protects itself by running backwards and pushing its’ quills into its’ predator. But the porcupine can’t shoot its’ quills.

8. Porcupines lifespan The porcupines lifespan in the wild is usually 5 to 7 years.

9. What is special about the porcupine? We think the porcupine is special because it has sharp quills that make it look unique.
