Themes Action research with Media students        The relationship between theory and practice Assessing media learning             The categorisation and assessment of creativity and originality The employability discourse             How media literacy and media education relate Media learning practices in 'Media 2.0'         The Media teacher as researcher; and the academic as practitioner The boundaries of media education and within media education Pedagogy related to specific learning contexts (eg 14-19 diploma, 'reframing literacy' in primary education, production-based University learning) or progression between learning contexts.

  3. Submissions Articles are invited in two formats:* FULL ARTICLES (4–5000 words) sharing the outcomes of research (with appropriate methodology and critical analysis of data) to contribute to the field of media education and pedagogy. * RESEARCH REPORTS (1500 words) sharing work in progress or completed research pending critical analysis from emerging researchers. These reports will serve a networking and incubation function. The journal also features reviews of books, online material, conferences and other related areas.

  4. First two editions: • Multimedia education research in creative disciplines – action research; • Discourse analyses of media literacy and Digital Britain • Method for reflective film analysis – action research • Art and Media education in collaboration (Diploma) • Internet marketing and media education • Media production and ‘tales of the classroom’ / power dynamics • Wikileaks as a media text / resource • Research reports – Australian TV scenario building collaboration (academics and industry); online pedagogy; alternative dissertations; videogame effects research; Issue 3 – articles from Media Education Summit and MLC 2010.

  5. Guidance from board • Target journal and do homework (FOCUS) • Be realistic and practical – action research • Methodology – fit for purpose • Ethics – crucial • Map the field first and locate research • Limitations – be explicit (small scale, pilot?) • Managing data and immersion in data • Feeding forward to more research? • Submission – conventions, sylistics, care.
