Cardiff has been named European Capital of Sport 2014 http://www.aces-europa.eu/ There is no denying the city already has a fantastic sporting pedigree”. Cardiff is named European Capital for Sport Cardiff has been successful in securing the prestigious title of European Capital of Sport 2014. The announcement was made by officials from the European Capitals of Sports Association (ACES) at an event held in Valencia this week. It was recognised that Cardiff has firmly established itself as a leading city for sport, offering state of the art stadiums and facilities including the Millennium Stadium, SWALEC Stadium and Cardiff International Sport Stadium. Leader of the Council, Cllr Rodney Berman said: "There is no denying the city already has a fantastic sporting pedigree”.

The initiative aims to enhance labour mobility in the EU by preventing discrimination and reducing the incidence of unfair practices migrant workers face in Europe.
In the News… 10 April 2013 Trade Defence Instruments (TDI) Trade Defence Instruments (TDI) are the legal means by which European companies can respond to unfair trade practices in third countries, such as dumping or subsidies, to restore a level playing field for their business. The EU system of trade defences is to be reviewed.. This proposal aims to review and improve in a pragmatic and balanced way the EU's Trade Defence Instruments for the benefit of all stakeholders – from producers, importers, to small, medium and large companies and, of course, consumers. The overall ambition is to make these instruments more efficient, transparent and user-friendly.
In the News… 15 April 2013 Tackling human trafficking EU Anti-Trafficking Directive comes into force If the Directive is fully transposed, it has the potential to have a real and concrete impact on the lives of the victims and to prevent others from falling victim to such a devastating crime. The new rules cover actions in different areas such as criminal law provisions, prosecution of offenders, victims' support and victims' rights in criminal proceedings, prevention and monitoring of the implementation.
In the News… 16 April 2013 Strengthening Europe's preparedness against natural and man-made disasters The European Commission present a Green Paper consultation on insuring against natural and man-made disasters. The Commission’s aim is to initiate a broad debate on how to address the complex challenges associated with increasingly frequent catastrophes as well as possible solutions offered by disaster insurance. The Commission also present an adaptation strategy to help strengthen Europe's resilience against the impacts of climate change.
