Intruder/Hostage Situation • Assess the situation and remain calm. • Call 911 if you can do it without placing yourself or others in further danger. • Initiate Lockdown alert. • Move away from the threat and to a safe room. If you can do it without endangering yourself or others, vacate the building (see number 1). • Render assistance without endangering yourself. • If taken hostage, follow the instructions of the intruder. Remember, time is on your side. Don’t threaten or attempt to intimidate or disarm the intruder. • If not directly involved, follow instructions quickly and without comment. • Be prepared to evacuate if directed to do so by Police or IC. Follow evacuation procedures – be prepared for a controlled evacuation. • If the police or IC decides to evacuate the unaffected portion of the building, each individual evacuated is responsible for contacting their supervisor (or Security, if that is not possible) after evacuation is complete.
Disorderly Behavior/Assault • Assess the situation. Remain calm. • Call 911 if the incident seems imminently dangerous. Notify police if weapon was used, victim has physical injury causing substantial pain or impairment of physical condition or assault involved sexual contact. • Ensure the safety of staff. • Notify Security. • Defuse situation, if possible. • Render assistance to victim if possible without endangering yourself. • Document all activities. Ask victim(s) and witness(es) for their account of incident.

Earthquake Hazards • Inside • Hanging Light Fixtures • Large windows – May Shatter • Tall bookcases or cabinets – May Topple • Classroom equipment (computers, TVs, VCRs, stereos and slide projectors • Science labs, especially chemistry • Hazardous materials storage areas • Outside • Power lines • Trees • Debris from building • Chain link fences (can be shock hazard)
