FIRST IN DAILY NEWS U.S. funds creation of national health research network First CTSA Awards Announced October 3 • 12 Academic Health Centers (AHCs) nationwide • 52 planning grants to prepare applications to join consortium • In 2012, ~60 institutions will be linked to energize clinical and translational science NIH Funds a Dozen 'Homes' for Translational Research

  4. Impact • NCRR GCRC and K12 programs will be transitioned into CTSAs by 2012 • 2006 awards subsumed 16 GCRCs, 3 RM-K12,3 RM-T32s, 4 NCRR-K12, 9 K30s • Second set of applications reviewed and awards will be made in September 2007 • Third submission date in October, 2007

  5. CTSA Steering Committees • Embody the expertise of the Consortium • Provide a forum for dialog with the NIH • Identify needs, goals and priorities • Serve as a forum to share experiences • Serve as a platform to adopt common standards

Present status • 11 Steering Committees have met • Biostatistics, Communications, Ethics, Participant and Clinical Interactions, Informatics, Community Engagement, Education/Career Development, Evaluation, Translational, Pediatrics, PI. • 5 committees have reported to PIs • Informatics, Evaluation, Ethics, Participant, Pediatrics • 2 workshops are being planned on IRB issues related to pediatrics and to multi-site studies.

  7. Priorities for 2006 Awardees • Hold meetings for all Steering Committees • Build a culture based on sharing • Implement evaluation plans • Agree on achievable short-term goals • Deploy Web-based communications systems • www.ctsaweb.org

Pending & future awards • ‘Modeling NCRA’ applications that will be funded came from Columbia University, Duke University, University of Rochester and the Mayo Clinic, Rochester • Applications responding to RFA RM07-007 that will be funded will be announced after NCRR council on September 11, 2007
