Failure to do so could result in an “F” on their transcript.

  24. Schedule Changes • The student registration process is one of the most important functions that a student performs each year. It determines the courses the school will offer, development of student scheduling, and how the school utilizes its staff. When a student completes the registration process, he/she enters into a contract with the school. Apex High School asks its students to be most careful and accurate in selecting their courses each year. • The deadline for requesting course changes is May 16th. • The only schedule changes made during the school year will be for a failed class that must be repeated, a change in academic level, or a change based on a teacher request.

  25. PostSecondary Planning • Tests • Useful Websites • Academic Preparation

  26. PSAT • PSAT • Given once per year at AHS in October • Free to all sophomores • $13 for juniors who sign up • In December, sophomore students received a test booklet, a profile sheet with the correct answers, the student’s answers, and login for MyCollegeQuickstart, which provides suggestions for improvement

  27. PLAN • Sophomores also took the PLAN (the practice ACT) in October. Results were distributed in December. • This test is currently administered annually to sophomores at no cost to parents. • The PLAN is not available to Juniors.

  28. SAT vs. ACT • SAT • Critical Reading, Math, & Writing • www.collegeboard.org • Check w/individual schools to see which test they prefer • Interested in a 4 yr school? Good idea to take one by the end of junior year • ACT • English, Reading, Math, Science Reasoning, & Writing • www.ACT.org

  29. ACT • Juniors are taking the ACT on March 4 at AHS . The current plan is to offer the exam to each year’s junior class at no cost • Current sophomores should use PLAN results to help study for the ACT next year

  30. Looking Ahead: What do Colleges Look At? • GPA • Difficulty of coursework • SAT/ACT scores • Class rank • Involvement • Recommendations • Personal statement/essay
