The Ark of the Covenant • Was to be transported • according to the instructions given • by God to Moses. Numbers 4:5-6 • David had failed to inquire…
1 Chron. 15:11-16 • 11 And David called for Zadok and Abiathar the priests, and for the Levites, for Uriel, Asaiah, and Joel, Shemaiah, and Eliel, and Amminadab, • 12 And said unto them, Ye are the chief of the fathers of the Levites: sanctify yourselves, both ye and your brethren, that ye may bring up the ark of the Lord God of Israel unto the place that I have prepared for it.
13 For because ye did it not at the first, the Lord our God made a breach upon us, for that we sought him not after the due order. • 14 So the priests and the Levites sanctified themselves to bring up the ark of the Lord God of Israel.
15 And the children of the Levites bare the ark of God upon their shoulders with the staves thereon, as Moses commanded according to the word of the Lord. • 16 And David spake to the chief of the Levites to appoint their brethren to be the singers with instruments of musick, psalteries and harps and cymbals, sounding, by lifting up the voice with joy.
David finally got it right! • He had to go back and check what God • said to do, and did it, and was success- • ful in bringing the ark back.
When the camp was to be moved, • Aaron and his sons were to come • In, take down the covering veil, and • Cover the ark of testimony with it. • (Numbers 4:5) • Why?
This is very important: • Numbers 5:17-20 • Then the Lord spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying, Do not let the tribe of the families of the Kohathites be cut off from among the Levites. V.19 But do this to them that they may live and not die when they approach the most holy OBJECTS: • Aaron and his sons shall go in and assign each of them to his work and to his load: but they shall not go in to see the holy OBJECTS • Even for a moment, or they will die!
Moses had the same problem • Speak, but he smote the rock.
