Blood and the Old Covenant Leviticus 17:10-11 -- "Any Israelite or any alien living among them who eats any blood—I will set my face against that person who eats blood and will cut him off from his people. For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one's life.

Jesus and the Last Passover • Luke 22:15-16– • And he said to them, "I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the kingdom of God.“ • That was to be the last official Passover. What is done today has no meaning because Jesus became the final Passover lamb.
The Introduction of Blood Into The Meal • Luke 22:20 -- In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you. • The juice in the cup becomes the symbol of real blood. • Jesus speaks of the blood “poured out”, as the blood of a sacrifice would be poured out. • Blood becomes a permanent mark of the New Covenant, remembered in the supper.
The Blood Sprinkled for the New Covenant • Hebrews 12:24 – “…to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.…” • Jesus mediates a New Covenant • His “sprinkled blood” calls to mind the Old Covenant rites where blood from the sacrificial animal was sprinkled at the base of the altar for the purpose of atonement. • His blood speaks a better word that the blood of Abel, because it is purer blood.
Poured Blood For The Covenant • Mark 14:24 -- "This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many," he said to them. • Seen through the eyes of the actual victim – blood poured out as a libation from the one who had completely surrendered Himself to the will of the Father.
The Blood For Washing • Revelation 7:14-15 -- And he said, "These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore, "they are before the throne of God and serve him day and night in his temple; and he who sits on the throne will spread his tent over them.
What Can Wash Away My Sins? Exodus 24:8 – “Moses then took the blood, sprinkled it on the people and said, "This is the blood of the covenant that the LORD has made with you in accordance with all these words.” Hebrews 9:18 -- This is why even the first covenant was not put into effect without blood. – (28) -- so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people….
No Forgiveness Without Blood • Hebrews 9:22 --In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.
We Are Purchased With Blood Ephesians 1:7 -- In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace
