3. Successful Readers…. Read aloud at a pace they would use in conversation. Do not read too quickly or too slowly for readers to understand.

10. Cause and Effect An effect is what happens as a result. A cause is the reason that something happens. In a story, one event causes another event to happen. The cause is why something happens. The effect is what actually happens.

11. Cause and Effect A cause may have more than one effect. Also, an effect may have more than one cause. The words because, when, then, and so may signal a cause and effect relationship.
