Constitution- The Bill of Rights By Allisyn Spicer March 19, 2012 Gr. 8- HR # B232 Computer Enrichment Allisyn Spicer
I. The Freedom of Speech, Press, Religion and Petition Allisyn Spicer The first law says that you can be any religion you want to be. Your religion beliefs should not be judged by anyone. It also says that people can say what they want and can do what they want to do. People may not like what the government does or the president and that is okay because in this law it says that you could ask the government to change something. The lastly, people should be able to be peaceful. • Examples: People have been fighting for gas prices to go down or for health care.
II. Right to keep and bear arms Allisyn Spicer The second law says that people should be able to defend them selves and the people around them without getting in trouble. People should be able to carry around weapons and not get offended or in trouble for it. • Examples: Some people have a bat near them so incase something happens they are prepared. Also in Texas some people carry guns everywhere like schools, streets, etc. and they believe that they should make that law everywhere.
III. Conditions for quarters of Soldiers Allisyn Spicer Law three states that you don’t have to let soldiers live in your house unless there is some type of war of some sort going on at the time. • Examples: Some people come home from the war or training and live with their families but, you don’t have to do that.
IV. Right of search and seizure regulated Allisyn Spicer The Right of search and seizure regulated law says that nobody can go through your belongings to search for things unless they prove to a judge that you have done something bad or have committed a crime if so; then they can. • Examples: Sometimes at court if there is a problem were the person did a crime then the FBI can search your stuff for evidence.
V. Provisions concerning prosecution Allisyn Spicer This law says that nobody can be tried for any serious crime unless there was a Grand Jury meeting to decide if there was enough evidence. Also if the jury decides you are innocent then, they can’t try for another Grand Jury Meeting. At your trial you don’t have to say anything; you can’t be killed, fined or thrown in jail unless you were condemned of a crime by the jury. Then lastly it says that the government cant touch or take anything that belongs you to unless the government is capable of paying for it. • Examples: In life, at a jury meeting there has to be enough evidence to decide if the convict is guilty or not.
VI. Right to a speedy trial, witnesses, etc. Allisyn Spicer • The Right to a speedy trial law says that if you’re arrested for some reason then you have the right to serve your trial early. The government can’t keep you in jail without letting you having your trial. If you have a trial, it has to be a public event because everyone has to know what is going on or what is happening. In order to decide if you are guilty or not a jury from your specific region/area has to decide and they have witnesses too. One other thing is that you get to know what you are arraign of. You also get to see the people who are against you and hear what they have to say. Also one more thing is the authority gets to help you get witnesses for your side of the story and you get to have a lawyer help you also. • Example: Most times when someone does something really bad like murder or rape, then there will be a public event about it like it will be on world TV or in the newspaper, etc. Also there will be a public event where that victim will be killed like back in the 1800’s and in some states they have the electric chair. That’s how they use to kill many people who have committed crimes.
VII. Right to a trial by jury Allisyn Spicer The seventh law says that when there is a case between you and someone else like other than the government then you can have a jury and press charges. • Example: You can have a jury if the problem is between you and someone else but not between you and the government because the government is the controller.
VIII. Excessive bail, cruel punishment Allisyn Spicer Excessive bail, and cruel punishment law says that no matter what the fee is in jail or in a fine that the government cant make you pay more than what is needed to pay. Also, even if you are condemned with a crime or convicted the government can’t say “oh, I want this person killed!” They are not allowed to torture you in any way. • Example: Everyone has to pay things in life whether it is bills or fees, etc. Well, when you are in a situation with the government that can be quite scary and usually when someone has to give money to the government it is usually a big amount. Also that is hard for some people because some people only make a certain amount and with the government they usually always want more than what is needed to be paid. So, no matter what you do even if you try doing the right thing, sometimes the government is selfish about it.
IX. Rule of Construction of Constitution Allisyn Spicer The ninth law says that just because these laws are written in the constitution, doesn’t mean you don’t have other availabilities and rights to do other things. • Example: Many people follow the Bill of Rights constitution, but that doesn’t mean they cant do anything else. Like for example the Bill of Rights requires a lot of rules but it’s okay to listen to other rules as long as you listen to the Bill of Rights too.
X. Rights of the States under Constitution Allisyn Spicer The Rights of the States under Constitution law says that anything that isn’t written in the Bill of Rights but can be done by anyone who lives there, should be discussed with the state or with the citizens to see if it could happen. • Example: Like for example, there are many other rules that people follow that aren’t written on the Bill of Rights Constitution but that’s okay as long as they are breaking the law.
Conclusion Allisyn Spicer Why is the bill of rights important? The Constitution Bill of Rights is important because number one we wouldn’t know what we can and can’t do without it. Second of all it tells us everything we have the right to do and without it our society would probably not approve. We wouldn’t be a stable government there would probably be more fighting and rebelling between people and more deaths. The Bill of Rights tells us our rights as citizens. Without these rights we wouldn’t be anywhere right now. The Bill of Rights is still used today in America and some other places too it will always be remembered because it is the law that made our world a monarchy. After researching and doing this project I have learned so much about the Constitution Bill of Rights and why it is so important in our world today.
