OSPFv3 Address Family Update Acee Lindem/Redback Networks Sina Mirtorabi, Abhay Roy, Michael Barnes/Cisco Systems Rahul Aggarwal/Juniper Networks OSPF WG – IETF 73 - Minneapolis
OSPFv3 Address Family Draft Review • OSPFv3 Address Family Draft • draft-ietf-ospf-af-alt-07.txt • Multiple instances of OSPFv3 using different Instance ID values to support multiple Address Families • There are two known implementations at this time OSPF WG – IETF 73 - Minneapolis
OSPFv3 Address Family – What Changed? • A question was raised on WG list about MTU field use in DBD packets • MTU in DBD should be matched for control plane or data plane or both? • This update clarifies it and allows for the two MTUs to be different OSPF WG – IETF 73 - Minneapolis
OSPFv3 Address Family – What Changed? • M6-bit introduced which is clear by default for backward compatibility • If M6-bit is clear MTU should be matched with both control/data plane • If M6-bit is set, MTUs are different • MTU in DBD packet is for data plane • If IPv6 MTU TLV is present, it carries the MTU value to be used for control plane • Else, MinMTU (1280) should be assumed for control plane MTU OSPF WG – IETF 73 - Minneapolis
OSPFv3 Address Family – Next Steps • We will WG Last Call it immediately after IETF 73. OSPF WG – IETF 73 - Minneapolis
