  2. The Castle Doctrine • Friends of Bo Morrison protested Sunday, March 25, 2012. Young and old alike lined Hwy. 33 to speak for justice.

Deputy BakerInterview • Under the Castle Doctrine, could Mrs. Dubose shoot Jem? “No.” • Why or why not? • “The law only covers cases where the perpetrator is in the home. • The justification is that the owner had a ‘reasonable belief’ that another person in the same situation would fear for his or her safety.”

  4. “It makes no difference.” • Does the “Castle Doctrine” make your job easier or harder? Why not? “Essentially, the law is the same.”

  5. What is the penalty? For Criminal Damage to Property, Trespassing, and Disorderly Conduct: (Misdemeanor) “Adults would get up to 1 year in jail and a maximum fine of $10,000.” “A restraining order would be suggested for the victim.” “Juveniles would get no jail, a ticket, and likely a parent would petition to take the child home.”

  6. Why the controversy? Bo was unarmed. The timing coincided with the Treyvon Martin case in Florida. Was the shooting “inside the house”?
