  2. House of Burgesses • It was the first law-making assembly in English colonies • Settlers elected people to make the laws for the colony • Began in 1619 • All the members of the House of Burgesses were men

  3. Mayflower Compact • Upon landing at Plymouth rock, the pilgrims agreed to sign a contract known at the Mayflower Compact • It primarily set up two basic things for the Pilgrims: • 1. The people would elect their own leaders • 2. The people would create their own laws and government

  4. Monarchy • A Monarchy is a type of government with one absolute ruler, such as a king. Positions of Kings and Queens are inherited, or born into their positions.
