OUTLINE Lifting tool and basket supports HA-TPC cage FE simulation Cooling system
1. LIFTING TOOL AND BASKET SUPPORTS: new design Previous design New design HA-TPC total weight ~ 320 kg (composite cage ~ 160 kg)
1. LIFTING TOOL AND BASKET SUPPORTS: integration Bottom HA-TPC Top HA-TPC
1. LIFTING TOOL AND BASKET SUPPORTS: envelopes • The design of sFGD supports might be challenging due to the limited space available

2. HA-TPC CAGE FE SIMULATIONS: previous study • A FE model has been previously developed to investigate the structural behaviour of the TPC cage (prototype and final configuration) by considering the effect of gravity and internal pressure. • The influence of the honeycomb thickness on the total deformation of the cage, as result of the internal pressure of 4 mbar, was studied. Honeycomb thickness = 30 mm Total panel thickness = 34.4 mm -> max total deformation* ~160 µm Honeycomb thickness = 35 mm Total panel thickness = 39.4 mm -> max total deformation* ~130 µm Honeycomb thickness = 25 mm Total panel thickness = 29.4 mm -> max total deformation* ~200 µm *the axial contribution of the cathode panel is neglected
2. HA-TPC CAGE FE SIMULATIONS: new design Cathode panel TPC cage • MAIN MODIFICATIONS • Simpler profiles for the transversal beams • G10 instead of POM (for beams and flanges) 35 mm Courtesy of G. Cogo, G. Collazuol (INFN Padova)
2. HA-TPC CAGE SIMULATIONS: new design GEOMETRY AND MATERIALS MESH 1.5 x 105 nodes Outer skin Inner skin RESULTS (internal pressure = 4 mbar) Maximum deformation: ~90 µm • The impact of the new geometry of the transversal beams is negligible • The use of G10 (reinforced plastics) improves the overall stiffness of the cage *the axial contribution of the cathode panel is neglected

3. COOLING SYSTEM: modules in series 1.125 l/min 1.125 l/min Heat power (per module) = 26 W -> Δtwater,module = 0.33 °C Twater,in = 18 °C 1.125 l/min 1.125 l/min Twater,out = 19.3 °C
3. COOLING SYSTEM: thermal tests • The thermal tests are aimed at validating the FE model by imposing the actual heat load and water cooling. • The FEM board is currently in production and it will be used in these tests, while the FEC boards will be equipped with equivalent thermal resistances. • The tests are foreseen to start by the end of 2019 at CEA Saclay.
