Germany, 1936 • Nazis eliminated unemployment by reinstating military and weapon related factories but these weapon factories relied too much on imported raw materials. • They tried to fix this issue by limiting imports, using savings and exporting goods, but did not succeed.
The Four Year Plan • Hitler attempted to solve Germany’s economic issues by commencing his Four Year Plan. • This plan started on October 18, 1936. • The objective of this plan was to make Germany autarkic by making synthetic materials, using their own resources that were of lower quality, and extracting oil from coal. • This plan did not work and Germany still relied on foreign imports for certain raw materials.
Blitzkrieg • Germany was aware that they were unable to win wars of attrition. However, they still had need for land and resources. • Germany adopted a new strategy of warfare, called Blitzkriegs or Lighting wars, that allowed them to stage swift attacks on isolated, weak areas that were rich in resources. • This was the strategy used when taking over Poland
