Graphic Design Cave paintings: Lascaux, France 15,000 years ago When people first started telling stories or communicating messages to each other, drawings were very important. There was no written language!
When people first started to write what is now our alphabet, they began with pictures. Can you believe that the letter “A” started out as the head of a cow-like animal called an ox! Graphic Design
Graphic Design Over a period of time (hundreds of years), people started drawing letters in a very fancy way--illuminated! The artists who drew the letters would often add pictures of animals, plants and people in the letters!
Pretty soon lots of books were made with both pictures and words. Artists took special care to match the letterforms to the illustrations. Graphic Design
LETTERFORM is the shape or style of drawing a letter. In computer class letterform is usually called FONT. Graphic Design
The art of matching letterforms and illustrations to communicate a message became known as GRAPHIC DESIGN. Today most graphic designers use the computer as an art tool to create their work! We see the artworks of graphic designers everywhere! Graphic Design
