What is a Linocut? A linocut is a printmaking technique in which a relief image is carved in a linoleum block and then printed out onto paper. Linocutswere first introduced as woodcuts which sound more appropriate. Dating back to the early 1900s they were only made by famous or great artist. Because making Linocut does not require a lot of time and equipment, it is popular to do in Art classes.
What equipment is required • A relief image you want to print • Linoleum block- on which image is cut in • Thick and thin chisels- to carve lines with in linoleum • Carbon paper- to trace the shape of image on linoleum • Ink and ink roller- to give the linocut a color • Non-slip mat- so the linoleum does not slip while carving lines • Image press/printer- prints the linocut onto paper
