Marine Science • Physical Oceanography • Diversity of Marine & Fresh water environments • Study of Animals within marine ecosystems
Labs/Dissections • Full dissection lab course • Utilizing preserved and living animal specimens for study and observations • Must complete the dissections, as well as practical labs, to be successful in this class • All aspects are graded (participation, enthusiasm, knowledge from class work assigned, and readings) • AT ALL TIMES, animals used, living or dead, are to be treated with the upmost respect and care
Class Expectations • Be seated, quiet, ready to work when bell rings. Have all materials (notebook, colored pencils, notes, etc.) • Respect the animals, objects and others in classroom at ALL times • Stay in seat and raise hand; NO profanity, throwing objects, or raised voices! • NO LATE WORK ACCEPTED! • No food, candy, drinks OR cell phones in lab room • Do not sleep in class • Return all lab equipment, reference materials, etc to their appropriate places
Missed Test/Lab Policies • There are NO test makeups • If you miss a test, you will take a 6-week cumulative test, which will consist of approximately 6 questions from each test from the current grading period only • If you have not missed a test, you can take the 6-week cumulative test to replace your lowest test score! :o) • If you miss a lab, an alternative assignment will be given (usually a research paper)
PS… I know when you are texting in class… Seriously NO ONE just looks down at their crotch and smiles!! Keep phones put away!
ABSOLUTELY…NO • Food, Drinks, Candy or Gum!!! • Please do not put your nose “boogers” under the table…yes this has happened…yes it is gross!!!!!!
Discipline Policy • Consequences…you become part of Mrs. Romano’s beautification committee! • Verbal warning &/or call home to parents • 30-minute detention after school • 1-hr detention after school • Office referral
I.C. Assignments/Procedures • Does not count as an absence…ALL WORK is due by the end of the school day! • No “extra” time is given to finish work • Deliver work to D-1 or put in Mrs. Romano’s mailbox by 1:45 pm. NO LATE ASSIGNMENTS ACCEPTED! • See Mrs. Romano day BEFORE I.C. or visit the web page for assignments • Your responsibility to get work AHEAD of time
HALL PASS Policy • You are allowed a hall pass 2x each 6-week period • This can be for visiting another teacher, coach, sponsor, guidance, calling home, using the restroom, or just plane wandering • If you do not use any passes you will receive 20 extra credit participation points at the end of the grading period
Class Work • Individual Seat Work: work SILENTLY and ALONE on assignment • Partner Work: work QUIETLY and with only 1 other person on assignment • Group Work: work only with assigned students QUIETLY QUIETLY: Funeral voice…should be able to hear my instructions WITHOUT me having to yell or scream!
Cheating Cheating will not be tolerated under any circumstances… DO YOUR OWN WORK!!!
Required Class Supplies • 3 ring notebook (1-½ inches recommended) • Blue or black pens ONLY; #2 pencils • Colored pencils • Highlighter • Lined paper (no spiral notebook paper – will not grade assignment)
Fundraiser • Brochure Sale to begin 1st week September (Cookie Dough) – Must sell 4 items • OR • Monetary Lab Donation of $15.00 student • Money Used for: Lab/Animal specimens, classroom supplies, lab supplies, computer resources, supplemental educational resources, etc.
Animal Kingdom • Next Trip: • Mrs. Romano – Thursday, October 4th • 7a-7:30p • Approximately $70.00+ for ticket and bus

Sea World • NEXT TRIP: • Mrs Romano – Friday, March 8th (7a-7:30p) • ~$70.00 for ticket and bus
COSTA RICA (Not School Related) • Select students ages 16-18 • 9-10 nights • Travel dates June 2013 TBA • All participate in Local School Visit, Beach, & Manuel Antonio Nat’l Park • Choose from options like ATVing through jungle, Horseback Riding, Whitewater Rafting, Canyoning (rapelling down waterfall), Ziplining,…etc.. • Mandatory Parent Meeting Aug. 29th-6:30pm in D7
Science Related Clubs 1. Environmental Club, open to all science students. 2. Science Honor Society, a select group of juniors and seniors meeting academic and leadership requirements (3.5 in science and 3.0 overall)
