Rotating Block Schedule • Odd/Even Days (3 period day w/RAM time) • Example: • Monday 1-3-5 • Tuesday 2-4-6 • Wednesday 3-5-1 • Thursday 4-6-2 • Friday 5-1-3 • Monday 6-2-4 • Tuesday 1-3-5 Block Schedule Benefits • Provides extended instructional time • Creates opportunities for peers & teachers to develop strong relationships and a nurturing learning environment

Mathematics • Two 6th grade options: • Math 6 • Math 6/7 • Focus Areas • College & Career Readiness • Conceptual Understanding • 21st Century Skill Sets • Collaboration, Communication, Critical Thinking, Creativity & Innovation
Integrated Science • Next Generation Science Standards- • Integrated Scope and Sequence • Focus Areas: Physical, Earth, Life Sciences • Types of Energy and Thermal Energy • Earth’s Systems and Natural Resources, • Cells and Microscopes, Body Systems, Growth and Development • Observing phenomena, performance expectations, engineering challenges, use of claim, evidence and reasoning
Music - Year long Orchestra Full- year course. Open to all students regardless of prior musical training. Band Full- year course. Open to all students regardless of prior of musical training. Students will perform at concerts and festivals
Gateway to Technology 6 - Year long Course Overview: Introduction to Engineering: Students will learn about the STEM careers and how they impact the past, present, and future. They will use the design process to solve a technical problem, while learning the purpose and importance of working in a team. Computer Science Discoveries:Introductory computer science course that empowers students to create authentic artifacts and engage with computer science as a medium for creativity, communication, problem solving, and fun. Curriculum by Code.org https://code.org/csdhttps://code.org/csd Mindstorms Robotics:The Introduction to Programming EV3 Curriculum is a curriculum module designed to teach core computer programming logic and reasoning skills using a robotics engineering context.
AVID 6 - Year long • An academic elective that promotes success in middle and high school. • Focuses on building a foundation in WICOR: writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading. • Supports our School & District college & career readiness goals. • Prepares students to be leaders on campus.
6th Grade Wheel Students who select the wheel will have four different experiences aligned with Poway High’s course sequence. Wheel Classes: • Video Production • Art • STEM • Leadership
Intro to Video Production - Wheel Course Overview: Students will learn the fundamentals of video production in a hands-on learning environment. Students will learn how to: • Create quality videos • Create storyboards/scripts • Understand the use of proper lighting and audio techniques • Edit video clips by adding voice overs, music and text • Fun, creative and collaborative learning environment!
Art- Wheel Course Overview: In this 9 week introductory course, students will explore fundamental art concepts related to the Elements of Art Students will: • Create one-dimensional and two-dimensional works of art • Work with a variety of mediums • Learn about different artists and art movements • Develop their creativity and artistic style • Be prepared to take art in 7th and 8th grade
STEM - Wheel Course Overview: This hands-on STEM course will introduce students to basic Engineering concepts and principles through fun and engaging activities. Students will be introduced to the following topics: • Engineering • Computer Science • 3-D and 2-D modeling • Robotics
Leadership Development - Wheel Course Overview: This course is designed to introduce students to study skills and leadership habits like time management, empathy, teamwork, and being proactive. Students will engage in a variety of leadership development activities, culminating with a Student-led Service Learning Project where they will apply what they have learned to impact real-world change. Students will: • Prioritize and organize assignments and create and manage to-do lists • Practice empathy by learning about people from a variety of different backgrounds • Work together in synergy with teammates • Develop a strong sense of self and recognize their individual ability to make positive impacts on the world. Dot Day - Students manifest and design a dot to represent the impact they want to have on the world.

Can We Talk? Parent to Parent 1 Even though it’s middle school, you are still needed! Join PTSA and Foundation. Volunteer to chaperone a dance or field trip. Get connected and jump in! 2 Download the ParentVUE app and encourage your student to use StudentVUE!
Can We Talk? Parent to Parent 3 Ask your student open-ended questions and keep the lines of communication open. 4 Empower your student to reach out to their teachers for any issues, but do follow up with an e-mail (or call) when you have questions.
