  3. Welcome! • I am happy to welcome all of you in this proud moment for an young, yet effective and vibrant organization • This is a short introduction of who we are and what we strive for!

  5. Did The Picture Actually Say It All? • Maybe or maybe not. So, let me describe everything about CAN-USA in the next few slides: • What is CAN-USA? • Who are we? • What are our goals? • What have we accomplished?

What is CAN-USA? • Computer Association of Nepal-USA (CAN-USA) is a US Organization dedicated to: • The professional development of its members and • Technological progress of Nepal • Works very closely with CAN-Nepal • CAN was established in 1992 • Instrumental in the development of ICT sectors in Nepal, Nepal ICT policy and much more • CAN-USA was born in July 29th, 2007 just after the 2007 ANA convention

Who We Are • No, we are not only software or hardware engineers… we could be any one of you for that matter • CAN-USA has an open membership policy and is comprised of: • Students • Professionals • Institutions Basically those who are interested in joining an organization for their own professional development as well as ICT infrastructure development of new Nepal • We provide a platform where our members can help build effective projects that directly impact the community • Most innovative projects supported and run by CAN-USA today are directly brought and executed by its members

What Are Our Goals? • To provide opportunities of professional growth to its members: • Research papers • Mentoring • Networking • Innovative project ideas and implementation • CAN-USA believes ICT sector is the key to the economic development of Nepal • ICT Industries can operate even in the environment which lacks traditional infrastructures, and thus can circumvent the problems created by the cross-border red tapes, or ossified trade and transit treaties. • The development in ICT sectors in the long run can stimulate growth in other industries • Smart planning and execution can convert challenges to the opportunities

  9. So Really… What Are Our Goals? • CAN-USA wants to focus on some of the challenges faced by Nepal related to ICT sectors, which include: • Rural Village Connectivity • Remote Health Care (Tele-medicine) • Remote Education • Emergency Communications Infrastructure • Electronic Governance

What Have We Accomplished? • Published two newsletters in a timely manner • Provided educational tourism • Partnered with many ongoing and future ICT projects by directly working with individuals or partner organizations: • ICT Incubator in Nepalese Universities • Grant Seekers/Givers Database • Healthy Nepal – a Telemedicine solution for your health • World-Class Telecommunications Research Laboratory in the Heart of Kathmandu (established, on going support) • Wireless Back Bone for Nepal (at planning stage, partner support) • The first US-Nepal Technology Development Conference
