2. Objectives At the end of this module the participant can:
Properly place of 3,5, or 12 lead ECG electrodes
Print option for 3- or 5-lead
Connect the ECG cable to the back of the machine
3. Monitoring the Patient This module will address monitoring done with 3 lead, 5 lead and 12 lead electrodes only. However, monitoring can be done with electrodes, Stat-Padz, or paddles.
A review of patient preparation will be given for both 3, 5 and 12 lead monitoring, then the module will be separated in 2 sections:
3 and 5 lead monitoring
12 lead monitoring

6. Selector Switch Turn Selector Switch to Monitor (Gray) area
Press the Lead button to scroll through the different leads available
Press the Size button to increase the size of the ECG on the screen
Press the Recorder button to start or stop printing and recording of the event on the screen
7. The 3 or 5 lead cable will fit snugly into the back of the M-Series in the ECG port.
The ECG cable should be clean, dry, and without any cracks.
8. Electrode Placement 12-Lead Locate proper V1 site
Find jugular notch and move finger down 1.5 inches to the Angle of Louis (where the manubrium joins the sternum) feels like a ridge.
Locate fourth intercostal space on right side lateral below the Angle of Louis.
This is the proper placement of the V1 lead.
9. Electrode Placement 12-Lead After locating the V1 lead, the rest of the leads can be placed according to the following illustrations.

Remove protective cap from the connector labeled V1-V6
Place end of V lead cable into the connector
To change from 12 lead to 4 lead Monitoring
Disconnect V Lead cable from the V1-V6 connector in the middle of the ECG monitoring cable
Place protective cap (attached to cable) back into connector

12. Displaying the 12 Lead Menu Press the Lead button to display any lead selection except PADS
Press the 12 lead softkey to access the menu
13. The 12 Lead MenuWill Display at the Bottom of the Screen To acquire 12-lead waveforms, press Acquire softkey.
ACQUIRING ECG message will appear.
After 10 seconds, ACQUISITION COMPLETE message is displayed and 12-lead data automatically prints.
Messages will alert practitioner if a problem such as Lead Off occurs
Press HALT key (which becomes available) to abort the acquisition
18. To enter patients age, press Age softkey
Press Inc Age or Dec Age
Press Enter softkey when selection is highlighted
Default age is 41
To enter gender, press Gender softkey to toggle between male and female
Press Enter once selection highlighted

Press Prev Phone # or Next Phone # to scroll through options
Press Dial Phone #
M-series displays messages on the status of the fax

Press Manual Dial softkey
Press Inc digit or Dec digit to change the digit
Press next digit to select next digit
Repeat previous steps until phone # is entered. Press Dial
