  4. Trickster Tales Trickster Tales- Is an imaginative narrative that involves the main character playing a trick on another. Trickster tales are also fables because they have talking animals Example-Anansi, an Akan word meaning spider, is a wise, funny, and mischievous trickster from West African lore. Non Example- Tall Tale like Paul Bunyan

  5. The Importance of understanding Trickster Tales Good readers are able to understand the structures of stories which allows them to better understand the story

Steps to describing the features of a Trickster Tale Step 1- Read the story Step 2- while reading think about who plays the trick Step 3- what was the trick Step 4- what was the outcome of the trick Anansi the Spider Who played the trick? What was the trick? What was the out come of the trick? The fisherman tricked Anansi by taking the fish and making Anansi go to the market with a rotten net The fisherman Anansi was beaten and he didn’t get any fish

Closure Step 1- Read the story Step 2- while reading think about who plays the trick Step 3- what was the trick Step 4- what was the outcome of the trick Brer Rabbit and Sis Cow Who played the trick? What was the trick? What was the out come of the trick? Brer Rabbit tricked Sis Cow by pretending to need persimmons and her horns got stuck inside the tree Brer Rabbit He was able to get milk and escaped from Sis Cow
