Chapter 14 Section 4 The Air We Breathe
Air pollution: the contamination of the atmosphere by the introduction of pollutants from human & natural sources.
Acid precipitation: rain, sleet, or snow that contains a high concentration of acids.
When the atmosphere is contaminated by pollutants from human & natural sources, it is called air pollution.
Carbon monoxide, dust, & smoke from forest fires that are put directly into the air are called primary pollutants.
Vehicle exhaust is the major source of human-caused air pollution.
When sulfur dioxide & nitrogen oxide are released into the air, they can cause acid precipitation.
A rapid change in a body of water’s acidity is called acid shock.
Allowance Trading System limits the amount of pollution companies can release.
