Additional Graduation Requirements • 1 set of Fine Arts Competencies is embedded in the World History and AP alternates courses • All students must complete Personal Financial Literacy sometime during grades 9-12. • For the 2018-19 school year & beyond, students will have the opportunity to complete the course in OK History. • Students who do not complete the course by 2nd semester of their senior year will lose an elective and will be required to take the online course as one of their classes. • All students must have CPR instruction prior to graduation. • Will be given during Biology courses within the school day.
State Testing • Continually Changing!!! • 2017-18: Transition Year • All Juniors will take the state ACT • All Juniors will take the state science test which covers Biology, life science & physical science • All students in US History will take some form of an assessment at the end of the year. • Testing Window – April 3-20th • Good News! • Test scores are no longer attached to graduation!!
Pre-enrollment procedures • Jan 29-31st– HS counselors will meet with each 9th grade student individually to go over pre-enrollment choices. The enrollment form MUST BE SIGNED by a parent prior to this meeting. • Feb. 5 through March 9, current sophomores & juniors will enroll through their math classes. • All students will be called by science class to the Counseling Office to meet one-on-one with the Counselors. • Counselors will go over graduation progress and requirements at that time, as well as answer questions about enrollment. • Students must have enrollment form completed & signed. • AP letter must be signed by the student. If there is no signature, you will be enrolled in the on-level course.
Enrollment Form • Flex Schedule • 1-6 hours = (Band, PM Tech) • 2-7 hours = (Athletes, AM Tech) • 1-7 hours = optional with very • limited options • Buses run both schedules • After school practices will not have transportation • Sample Enrollment Form • Do NOT put virtual classes , TCC, or tech classes on the enrollment form. You must fill out the entire form with regular classes. • If you are not currently on a tryout sport’s roster, you may not enroll in the sport of your choice. Tryouts for those not on a roster will be in the spring. • Application classes should be noted in the comments section but not listed as elective choices. • Counselors will update student enrollment in the computer when acceptance has been verified by instructors/coaches
Science Highlights • Chemistry I & Pre-AP Chemistry - the same content • Conceptual Chemistry is for students who struggle with math & are not on the college track. • AP Chemistry II is the next level up • Forensic Science I & II • Lab science available for Juniors & Seniors; sophomores may take if also taking Chemistry • Zoology • Lab science available for Juniors & Seniors; • Biology and Chemistry or Physics are prerequisites.
Math Options • Algebra I Geometry Algebra II is the most common math sequence. A fourth math is strongly encouraged. This may include PreAPPreCalculus, Algebra III, or AP Stats • Students who took Alg I or Geometry in MS have a sequence which continues from PreAP Algebra II to PreAPPreCalculus . These students are strongly encouraged to continue into AP Calculus AB, AP Statistics, and/or AP Calculus BC • Intermediate Algebra is a bridge course between Geometry and Algebra II for students who may have struggled with Algebra I concepts and need more review before going onto Alg II. Counselors and teachers will make recommendations for the course.
TCC PreCalc Project(Juniors & Seniors) • Combo class of Algebra III & TCC PreCalc • For students with Math Subscores of 18, 19, 20 on ACT • Enroll in Algebra III at BHS for 1st semester & work with a specific teacher who collaborates with TCC on preparing students for PreCalc. • Enroll in TCC PreCalculus (formerly College Algebra) for 2nd semester, but it’s on BHS campus during a regular class period with our teacher as a proctor for their online course. • TCC admission requirements must be met prior to 2nd semester. • Tuition & Fees associated with the TCC course
Misc. Class Options • Athletic Trainer/Sports Medicine • Application & Interview required • Must be able to attend games and practices in the evenings, on the weekends, and over breaks • Summer Clinics/Camps are required. Fees apply. • Work-Study • Course for students who work a minimum of 10 hours per week • Must not be employed by an immediate family member • Must provide pay stubs & supervisor evaluations through semester • Can do one school hour at the beginning or end of the day for 10 hours per week or two school hours for 20 hours per week • Marketing Internship – “job out” • grades 10-12 • available to students who work a min. of 10 hours per week. • Must have taken a year-long business class previously

Class Options • Academic Team • Will be offered if enough students pre-enroll in the class • For those students planning to participate/compete • Color Guard • Band 1st semester – 1st hour • Color/Winter Guard 2nd semester – 7th hour • Jazz Band • Always 7th hour • Must be enrolled in 1st hour band, as well. • Applied Music • For students planning to pursue music education or a music-related degree after high school. • Must be pre-approved by a band director. A signature on the pre-enrollment form is required to request the course. • Piano Lab • open to any student with or without previous training • Students will learn pieces based on their individual level of experience and ability.

Class Options • Robotics • Grades 9-12 • Will be a class only if enough students pre-enroll in the course • ROTC • Leadership, citizenship and life skills • Could qualify for Drill Team and Marksmanship Competitions (2016 State Champions) • Fun and exciting opportunities to ride in black hawk helicopters, team guidance activities and traveling • Community service and opportunities to serve others • Scholarship opportunities - in 2016, over $48,000 was awarded to graduating seniors
AP Courses prepare students for the rigor of college. Allow student’s to take college level classes and possibly receive college credit. AP Coursework grades are indicators of college success. Pre-AP= weighted at a 5 AP=weighted at a 6 if AP Exam is passed with a 3,4,5 Colleges favor students who have participated in the most challenging academic program available to them. *Any student who wishes to drop a Pre/AP course once enrolled must go visit with an assistant principal. Counselors can not make that changewithout prior approval. AP Letter must be signed by student. Parent Signature is required on pre-enrollment form
AP Capstone Project • The College Board’s AP Capstone is a rigorous, college-level program with an innovative and collaborative learning environment which promotes independent and critical thinking, effective and thorough research and written expression, as well as, learning and exploring topics across academic disciplines. • Program includes AP Seminar the first year a student is in the program and AP Research for the second year in the program. • AP Seminar & Research Certificate • Score 3, 4, or 5 in AP Seminar (year 1) • Score 3, 4, or 5 in AP Research (year 2) • AP Capstone Diploma™- • Score 3, 4, or 5 in AP Seminar (year 1) • Score 3, 4, or 5 in AP Research (year 2) • Score 3, 4, or 5 on 4 additional AP subject exams
AP Seminar • A rigorous, college-level foundational course. • Cross-curricular content • An independent-study and research-type approach • Prepare students to analyze and evaluate information to build and communicate evidence-based arguments. • Students are assessed with performance tasks and one end-of-course exam. All three assessments are summative and used to calculate a final AP score (using the 1–5 scale). AP Seminar Performance Task 1: Team Project and Presentation. AP Seminar Performance Task 2: Individual Research-Based Essay and Presentation. AP Seminar End-of-Course Exam taken in May during the AP testing window. • Students must take this AP Capstone Seminar course before being eligible to take the AP Capstone Research course the following year. Both courses are required for the AP Capstone Certificate and/or AP Capstone Diploma.
Concurrent Enrollment • Can begin the summer before Junior year • Juniors and Seniors only • Must have a 19 ACT composite or a 3.0 GPA • Must have specific ACT sub scores to take classes. • For Example: • Comp I & II – English ACT = 19+ AND Reading ACT= 19+ • PreCalculus I (formerly Coll. Alg) – Math ACT= 20+ AND Reading ACT = 19+ • Sciences – Science ACT = 19+ AND Reading ACT = 19+ • All other disciplines – Reading ACT = 19+ • Opportunity to earn college credit and experience a college setting at a minimal cost. • Students must print grades from TCC Blackboard weekly and turn in to the High School. If the grade report is not brought in, the student will receive an ‘F’ for that week and may be ineligible. • Students who drop/withdraw from a TCC course after the 3rd week of the semester may be ineligible for up to 3 weeks
Recommend that students take it the Spring they are enrolled in Algebra II. • Can take it as many as 12x. • Students on free/reduced lunch can receive a fee waiver for 2 tests. Tulsa Technology Center • Application Process • 1st round deadline is Feb. 2nd • GPA • Explore test scores and Interest Inventory • Campus Visit • Do not put this on your enrollment form unless you are currently enrolled in TTC • Students are at BHS 3 hours, have a travel period 4th hour, and are at TTC 3 hours. • Can attend AM or PM tech classes. • Bus transportation is available or students can drive. • For more information students can sign up in the counseling office to meet with our TTC rep, Mandy Flanary.
Students must complete a request form with parent signature. Any class outside of the 6 hour school day will be subject to a fee. Online AP/preAP courses have associated costs which must be paid each semester. NCAA approved courses have associated costs which must be paid each semester. All recovery classes must be outside of the school day and will be subject to a fee. Virtual classes are factored into weekly eligibility. Are you??? Self-motivated Able to learn independently. Manage time well. Speak up when problems arise. Not all students are successful. All online Courses are not self-paced; deadlines must be met. Register online at www.eligibilitycenter.org the Spring of your Junior year. Must notify your counselor. It is the student’s responsibility to choose the right courses and maintain good grades to meet NCAA requirements. 10 of 16 core courses must be completed before Sr. yr. Grades are “locked in” after your junior year. Summer School is the last opportunity to get your 10 of 16. You will be a red-shirt if you do not have 10 cores by the start of your senior year. Please note, NCAA does not accept computer classes. Failing any core course will negatively impact your NCAA eligibility to play in college Virtual courses may not meet NCAA eligibility requirements.
