Who Was Alexander I? Alexander I, also known as Alexander I Pavlovich, was the tsar of Russia from the 24 of March 1801 to the 1 of December 1925. Alexander I was also the first Russian Grand Duke of Finland, and Lithuania.
Domestic Policy Though a member of the Orthodox church, Alexander I strayed from the conventional Russian views and sought to reform the antiquated Russian government. One plan of action that Alexander I devised was to appoint the Private Committee, who, in accordance with the Age of Enlightenment, conjured up a constitutional monarchy.
Involvement in the Napoleonic Wars Russia entered the Napoleonic Wars in 1805 into the Third Coalition, which consisted of Britain, Austria, Russia, Sweden, and Prussia. The strength and unity of the Third Coalition allowed the defeat of Napoleon and the end of the Napoleonic wars.
Last Years of Life Alexander I died from a cold that eventually transitioned into severe typhus. However, conspiracy theorists believed that his death, rather than being an random act, was a purposeful attempt to allow him to live his last years in solitude. It was believed that he fled to Siberia, which is believable because in 1926, the Soviets discovered his tomb to be empty. This mystery remains unsolved.
Alexander I An extremely influential leader in Russian history.
