3. Definition of Parli-Pro • Formal, Organized meeting using well-defined set of rules Roberts Rules of Order • Chairman presides using gavel as symbol of authority • Fair and impartial unless they have relinquished the duties of the chair

4. Gavel: • 1 tap – sit down, announcement of a vote, adjourn • 2 taps – call to order (get order) • 3 taps – stand up(rise)

5. Agenda • Prepared and passed out before the meeting • List of what will be discussed at the meeting

6. Motion • To present a “new idea” • “I move….” • I move to purchase a pig for our class.” • Must be seconded, discussed and voted on.

7. Amendment • Change how motion states • 3 ways: add words, take out words, substitute • “I move to amend….by…..”

8. Majority • One more than ½ of members • Can be determined by a voice vote • Use a counted vote if it is to close to call

9. Minority • Less than half • ? Out of 100 • “Yes!” 49  “You are correct!”

10. Quorum • 2/3 of the total membership • Needed for certain motions/abilities • (Previous Question, Suspend the Rules)
