The E.U. • The E.U. is made up of 27 member states.It covers most of Europe.One of the E.U.'s main goals is to promote human rights.This year is the year of the citizen.The E.U.'s motto is,"United in diversity." • This year Ireland holds the presidency of the E.U. for the seventh time.We will have the presidency until June.While we have the presidency we have alot of influence within the E.U. The president of the E.U. is José Manuel Barroso. • The E.U. is made up of The European Council,The Executive Body,The European Parliment and The Council of the E.U. • The European council is the main body of the E.U. and it has the important job of deciding whether or not to pass the laws that are put forward to them. • water.

The European Parliment is made up of 724 M.E.P.'s from all of the member states.How many M.E.P.'s a country has depends on how big the country is.Ireland has 12 M.E.P.'s in the European Parliment, 3 from the East, 3 from Dublin, 3 from the North West and 3 from the South.The 3 M.E.P.'s from the South that represent us are Seán Kelly, Brian Crowley and Phil Prendergast. • The E.U. helps to improve the conditions of the member countries by passing new laws and providing funds so the countries can improve the living conditions and services of the member countries. • The European Union prevents war by uniting countries. It creates employment with trading through the International Market.The countries trading in the E.U. don't pay tax if trading to another E.U. country.

  4. The E.U. protects human rights by protecting cultures and languages. The member countries have to have a democracy so a dictator can't rule on their own. • The E.U. are protecting our world by making countries more aware about what is happining with global warming and they are making countries pass laws like the water charge so people don't waste water.
