International Visitor Arrivals 2010* • Total international visitor arrivals in ASEAN in 2010: 73,6 million visitors with 12.25 per cent growth compare to 2009 • Total international visitor arrivals from GCC Member States to ASEAN in 2010 reaches more than 450,000 visitors *Preliminary data based on ASEAN Member Countries submission as per April 2011
ASEAN Tourism Strategic Plan (ATSP) • The ATSP which define the policies, programmes and projects of the ASEAN in the areas of tourism marketing, product development, quality tourism, human resources development, investment, and communication. • Adopted by the ASEAN Tourism Ministers during ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) in Phnom Penh Cambodia, 17 January 2011. • The ASEAN NTOs to coordinate and oversee the implementation of ATSP and to report the progress of its implementation on a regular basis • VISION :“By 2015, ASEAN will provide an increasing number of visitors to the region with authentic and diverse products, enhanced connectivity, a safe and secure environment, increased quality of services, while at the same time ensuring an increased quality of life and opportunities for residents through responsible and sustainable tourism development by working effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.”
ASEAN Tourism Marketing and CommunicationWorking Group • Chair: Thailand, Vice Chair : Viet Nam • Roles: • To determine overall marketing directions and establishing communication protocols. • Establishment of ASEAN Tourism Market Research Group (ATMRG). • Activities: • Joint promotion through website: www.southeastasia.org; and ASEAN Promotional Chapter for Tourism (APCT) in Sydney, Mumbai, and, Dubai • China International Travel Mart (CITM), 27 -30 October 2011.
ASEAN Tourism Product Development Working Group • Chair: Malaysia, Vice Chair : Myanmar • Roles: • To identify new products and experiences working with a wide range of stakeholders. • To identify where investment will be required for product development and working with relevant bodies to identify sources for investment • Activities: • Sub Working Groups have been set up as follows: - Nature Based Tourism , Malaysia as lead coordinator - Cultural and Heritage Tourism, Indonesia as lead coordinator - Community Based Tourism, Cambodia as lead coordinator - Cruise and River Based Tourism, Singapore as lead coordinator • Seminar on Tourism Ethics for Asia and the Pacific was successfully held in Bali on 11-12 June 2011.
ASEAN Quality Tourism Working Group • Chair: Philippines, Vice Chair : Singapore • Roles: • To be responsible for enhancing quality of services, facilities and human resources in the region • To be responsible for developing standards, ensuring third party certification and identifying new areas for standards development. • Activities: • The ASEAN Green Hotel Standards Awards every two years and the First Training on ASEAN Green Hotel Standards to be held in the first week of July 2011 in Thailand. • ASEAN Workshop on Cultural Heritage Tourism to be held on July/August 2011 in Bandung. • To continue the activities under ASEAN Tourism Resource Management (ATRM) with the following arrangement : ATRM Cruise with Singapore as the lead coordinator,ATRM Tourism Heritage with Indonesia as the lead coordinator, ATRM Hospitality with Malaysia as the lead coordinator. • ASEAN Workshop for Wellness Spa Services was successfully held in Phuket, Thailand on 30-31 March 2011. • ASEAN Tourist Guide Contest 2011 will be held in Yogyakarta Indonesia tentatively on 24-28 September 2011.
ASEAN Tourism Integration and Budget Committee • Chair: Brunei Darussalam, Vice Chair : Cambodia • Roles: • Provide recommendations to ASEAN NTOs on strategic directions for ASEAN tourism integration • Coordinate with other relevant ASEAN bodies on facilitation and connectivity issues • Review project proposals from the Working Groups • Recommend the annual budget and work plan to the ASEAN NTOs • Identification of the sources of funding required to implementation the ATSP • Monitoring the implementation of the ATSP 2011-2015 • Activities: • Indonesia as the Chair of ASEAN NTOs has attend “The 4th ASEAN STOM-NTOs Consultation Meeting” held on 24-26May 2011 in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
ASEAN Tourism Professional Monitoring Committee • Chair: Indonesia, Vice Chair : Lao PDR • Established in June 2010 in Lombok, Indonesia, on the implementation of the MRA for Tourism Professional • Roles: • Create awareness and disseminate information about the MRA on Tourism Professionals within ASEAN • Promote, update, maintain and monitor the ASEAN Common Competency Standards for Tourism Professionals (ACCSTP) and the Common ASEAN Tourism Curriculum (CATC); • Notify promptly the concerned Tourism Professional Certification Board (TPCB) upon receipt of feedback from National Tourism Professional Board (NTPB), in case a foreign Tourism Professional is no longer recognized by the host country • Activities: • “Workshop on the Achievement of ASEAN Member States in Implementing MRA on Tourism Professional” was successfully held on 14-15 June 2011 in Palembang, Indonesia.
