Early in the morning... • After he dressed, he washed his face and hands • He visited the barber later, when he went to the forum
Metella’s Clothing • tunica (slip) • stola (dress) • palla (shawl) • sandals
Slave girls helped Metella with her • hairstyle--elaborate, often dyed • jewelry--necklaces, bracelets, pins, and earrings • make-up--powder, blush, mascara
Breakfast “ientaculum”--bread and water
Caecilius the Patron • First duty of the day: to receive greeting from his “clientes” • He was their “patronus” or patron • The morning greeting of visitors was called the “salutatio”
Forum Then Caecilius went to the forum, or business center
Nap-time! • After lunch, Caecilius took a short rest • Slaves worked throughout the day
