  4. Infinitive and Present Stem • the infinitive is the verb form presented by ‘to’ – to be, to carry, etc. • the present infinitive of regular Latin verbs end in –re • ex) amāre –to love, portāre – to carry • drop the –re to get the present stem

  5. Verb Conjugations • Latin verbs are divided into 4 conjugations -based upon their present stem. 1st conjugation verbs always have the present stem –ā Conjugating a verb means to add the personal endings to the stem.
