Team Rules • Absences • Attending practice is the number one way to improve as a player - the importance of practice can not be understated. Our hope is that we have 100% attendance at every practice, however we understand that situations may arise that prevents this. Therefore, we have the following rules: • Excused Absences: A missed practice will be excused if the parent calls the head coach before practice, or, in an emergency situation, if the parent calls as soon as possible (before the next practice). A player may be required to miss ½ of a game if he exceeds a maximum of 2 excused absences for the season. This will be evaluated on a case by case basis and will be subject to the coach’s discretion. We don’t expect this to be a big problem. • Unexcused absences • If an absence is unexcused, the player will be ineligible to play ½ game for the first offense, and will be ineligible for 1 full game on the second offense. Examples of an unexcused absence include (but are not limited to): • A player voluntarily chooses to miss practice with no compelling reason • A player is grounded or otherwise held in detention for infractions made at home or at school • Our expectation is that we will not have to address this issue for anyone, over the entire season • Behavior • We expect our team to play with emotion and be aggressive, while demonstrating good sportsmanship during all games and practices. We also expect that our players will be well behaved at home and at school. In the unlikely event that this does not occur, zero tolerance will be given for behavior such as arguing with officials, making improper gestures to other teams (“trash talking”, taunting, name calling, etc.), teammates, or coaches, using improper language, or fighting. • Consequences: The player will be removed from the game immediately • We expect our team to strive for excellence – pushing themselves and their teammates to do their very best during practice, games, at home, and at school. We expect teammates to positively support each other – both when they make good plays AND when they make mistakes. Negative feedback on another player’s performance is not acceptable (i.e. “you suck” because you missed a block or fumbled, or jumped offsides or you’re a baby because you’re always crying, etc.). There is a right way and a wrong way to provide feedback to teammates – our team will learn and know the difference. In the unlikely event that a player displays improper behavior (i.e. negative feedback, using bad language, displaying a bad attitude, using improper gestures, or rough housing during practice, displaying a bad attitude, bullying people, or talking back to Mom or Dad or a coach), • consequences can vary from a “time out”, to extra running after practice, to the loss of ½ game of playing time, depending on the behavior. In all cases, the consequence will be commensurate with the infraction and will be at the discretion of the coach. The rules can best be described as follows: DO THE RIGHT THING – YOU KNOW WHAT YOU SHOULD & SHOULDN’T DO - DEMAND THE BEST FROM YOURSELVES!
