Mission Statement • The Department of Social Work Education is specifically committed to the education of social workers at the bachelor's and master's levels who will provide social welfare services and leadership within the central San Joaquin Valley. Graduates of both programs intervene with individuals, families, groups, and other small systems as well as with human service agencies, voluntary organizations, neighborhoods, and communities. • To fulfill its mission in the region, the Department prepares social workers for agency and community-based practice and for informed, active participation as social workers and citizens who are compassionate and proactive in response to human needs. • Three important goals of the educational program include the development of practice with: 1) A commitment to social justice 2) Diversity awareness 3) An empowerment perspective • These three goals are equally important to practice at all levels of intervention.

University Criteria for Admission • A Bachelor’s Degree from an Accredited College or University • 2.5 GPA in the last 60 Semester Units (on a 4 point scale) – University Requirement • Good Standing at the last College or University Attended • Graduate Record Exam (GRE) • Results must be sent to the University; copy of results to be included in your Application Packet • Apply to Fresno State at: WWW.CSUMENTOR.EDU

Department Criteria for MSW Program Admission • 2.75 Cumulative GPA • MSW Fall 2017 Application • Statement of Purpose • Three References • CSU Mentor Application Proof/Receipt • GRE within 5 Years • Application will not be accepted without scores • For GRE Test Schedule Contact the Testing Office in FFS 110 at 559-278-2457 • Transcripts • Completion of THREE prerequisites (Non-Social Work Majors) • Human Biological Dev, Data Analysis, and Cultural Diversity

Prerequisites for MSW Program Admission (Non-Social Work Majors) One Course in Each Area • Human Development • Exclusive focus on human biological development over the life span • Data Analysis • Research/Statistics Course • Cultural Diversity • Upper Division Course in study of an ethnic/cultural group or community/group based on identity of status Note: Conditional Admission Status for applicants without prerequisites completed. Prerequisites must be completed in the summer prior to their admission.

16. Criteria Used in Evaluating MSW Program Application • Academic Performance • Minimum 2.75 GPA for MSW program Admission • GRE Writing Score • Work Experience - Voluntary and/or Paid Employment in human services • Three References (academic & employment) • Statement of Intent

18. STEP #1: Apply to Fresno State Graduate Admissions • University Graduate Admissions WWW.CSUMENTOR.EDU • Admission opens on October 1, 2016 • Must apply on or before January 27, 2017 • Note on CSU Mentor Application that your Mission Statement will be included in your Department Application

STEP #2: MSW Program Application • Opens October 2016 • All Application Materials MUST BE SUBMITTED to the Department of Social Work Education (DSWE) IN A SINGLE PACKET, DUE January 27, 2017 • Department Application • Statement of Purpose • 3 References on DSWE Rating Forms (Sealed & Signed across Envelope) • CSU Mentor Application • GRE Scores from General Test (recommend to take the test early to get scores in time and submit by January 27, 2017) • Transcripts or DARS – Unofficial OK for Fresno State graduates

20. Declare Full Time/Part Time Status • You must choose Full Time or Part Time Status on Department Application • Necessary for DSWE course planning • Change of Status requires DSWE Chair’s approval and cannot be guaranteed

21. Review Process • Review of MSW Application Begins After Application Due Date • All Applications Reviewed by Department Admissions Committee • Decisions Sent by Mail – By late April/mid May • Sent to Address of Record on Department Application; Notify Department of Changes • Make Sure all Contact Information is Correct and Current • Unsuccessful Applicants can obtain feedback after 5/26/2017

22. Deadline for Application to the Graduate Program in Social Work • Application to the Department of Social Work Education Deadline is January 31, 2017 • Application to the Title IV-E Child Welfare Program Tentative Deadline is January 31, 2017

CalSWEC Mission Statement • The California Social Work Education Center (CalSWEC) is a partnership between schools of social work, public human services agencies, and other related professional organizations that facilitate: • the integration of social work education and practice, • effective culturally competent service delivery and • leadership to the people of California

Goals for the Child Welfare Social Work Curriculum in California • Preparing a diverse group of social workers for career in human services with special emphasis on child welfare; • Defining and operationalizing a continuum of social work education and training; • Engaging in research and evaluation of best practices in social work

Title IV-E Full-Time Program • The Title IV-E Stipend provides two years of support at $18,500 per year for students (students pay mileage, books and tuition out of this amount) • Students must be enrolled full-time at the University • Students (on LOA) may not be active county employees during the regular academic year (Spring Break, Xmas and Summer are exceptions) • Two-year payback commitment in Public Child Welfare

31. Title IV-E Part-Time Program • Tuition • Books (up to $1,300 per year) • Mileage minimum of $4,000 per year (at the rate of .54 per mile, plus parking allowance) • Two-year employment obligation to their county agency
