Openings and Journals • Please write a corrected version of the sentence below. There are two mistakes. Sitting in an airport for three hours I was anxious to board the aircraft, and be home. • This should be your 8th opening. If it is not, you need to check with someone and get the one you are missing. • Journals – You should have 6 of them done. I will be checking for all six tomorrow and you will be using #4. • BASKETS – Please check to see baskets are complete. • EXPECTATIONS – Be present. Demonstrate personal responsibility and respect for yourself and all in this room.
Unit 1 Analysis • Take out your Pre-test analysis. • Look at what you needed to improve. • How did you do on this test – look at items you missed – how many were items you working to improve on? • What areas did you do well on? • Can you pinpoint a mistake or two to focus on? • Complete your Unit 1 Analysis sheet • Are you retaking the test?
Retakes • Must retake if you have less than 60% • May retake – no matter your score • To retake • You must complete the retake review AND be ready to correct it by Wednesday. • Retakes will be in class on Thursday. • Get review, turn in Unit 1 Test • I will collect Pre-test analysis and Unit 1 Analysis on Thursday.

Reading for Information • What we do most of the time? • How we gain information • Online, Words on TV, Articles, Pamphlets, Directions, etc. • Find a way to manage the reading • Process
Active Reading • Chunk the article in 1/3’s • For EACH section • Read and underline 3-5 phrases you feel are important regarding content of that section. • Circle any unfamiliar words/terms • On the Right side – write a one sentence summary of that section. • On the left side – write a evaluation, connection, or observation about the information. One sentence. • When finished, • Write a 3-5 sentence summary of the article at the bottom or separate. • Write a 2-3 sentence comment on the usefulness, effectiveness, completeness of the article. Your reaction to it and why.
Tuesday • Opening – Please copy the following quotation: “Be where you are – otherwise, you will miss your life.” Buddha • Finish reading from Monday. • Profile – you will have received an email from me. Use that and the directions to find the link. • Case Introduction. • Start looking for articles if I have checked your topic sheet.

Profile • Open link • Copy and paste answers into appropriate part. • Paste – Ctrl V • Save after you put each part in. • Chance to edit at end. • You do not need a picture for this draft. • You will need one you can tape/paste onto this for the final. • Print out when finished. • Save – To save – Choose Print. • Select Cutepdf writer. • This will allow you to save it to your network. Name it profile or my profile.
Wednesday • No Opening Get out the following: Retake review if you are doing the retake. Turn in the following if you did not yesterday: Profile, Article with summary and commentary, and Topic page. If you did not turn in journals yesterday, they are now late, but you still need to turn in Journal 5 and 6. • Grammar page 15-16 • Find articles – need 2 articles – may print.
Case Introduction • You know more than you think you do. • Trust your instincts. • Listen to your inner voice. • If you do not have a strong inclination for either answer – skip it. • Correct – Discuss what the function is and why for the answers. • Do pages 15-16 (not F)
Articles – Scholarly, Well-written, min. of 2 pages each • Use school databases • Will eventually need four articles. • Printing – I am allowing you 8 pages – be careful. • Long articles • May put into word document. • Might want to email to yourself • Have 2 articles printed and here by Friday. • If you find and finish early – what to do? • Study for retake • Review Pronoun Case • Look for pictures – ask me about this one

Test • If taking the retake • You may use your instruction pages 1-6. • You may also use your pre-test and Unit 1 Analysis sheet. • Please do corrections in a “funny color. • If not doing the retake • Please be respectful of those who are. • Work on your journal . • Work on the grammar. • Turn in your Unit 1 Analysis sheet.
Journal and Articles • Journal • Pay attention to directions – length, paragraphs. • The more time and attention you put into this now – the less you may have to put into it later. • Do it well – not just to get it done. • Articles • You need two printed out articles by tomorrow. • I can assign you a topic – but then you are stuck with it. • Be sure to keep it narrow • Those struggling with ideas
Friday • No Opening • Correct page 17, Do select items page 18 • Journal 8 – Articles – Folder for articles. Learning Targets • I can edit and correct errors in Pronoun Case. • I can decide on an issue that has at least 2 sides to it. • I can find quality research articles using the school’s databases on my topic. • I can read for ideas and summarize my article effectively.
RESEARCH ARTICLES • Take a folder – Outside – Put your name – written big please • Use this for all the work we do with this assignment • Journal 8 – just like what we did with the article I gave you on Internet Privacy • Complete – Turn in to me. The folder and both articles and Journal 8. • In reading – focus on what the issue is and reasons for the differing sides and evidence you can use to support those reasons. • You might want to highlight reasons in 1 color and evidence in a different color.
