Women have marched past generations of struggle to prove their mettle and gained their rightful and hard-earned position in many fields. Be it aviation, science, technology, culture, arts or finance, one can note the involvement of women where they are finally taking a seat on the table of power and making decisions. Women empowerment is not just one terminology. It is a practice of fighting for the platform to prove the worth of being successful, irrespective of gender. After all, that is truly what it means to have a world devoid of gender inequality. Focusing solely on the Indian societal setup, for centuries, women have been bind by their domestic chores. Their role in the family set up has been restricted to taking care of the parents, the household, the husband, the children, and not to forget, the in-laws. It has taken a long time for women to break free from the shackles of forced and/or presumed gender roles that have defied them from pursuing a career. Financial independence is also an integral component of a familial structure where women did not have an active voice. Since a very young age, girls have followed the male head of the family - be it her father, brother, husband or son. Time and again, this structure has stunted their growth as well as the inspiration to do more in life and pursue their potential. In varied regional and urban belts, young girls are often held back from school and forced to stay at home which often leads to early marriage and motherhood. But these cruel practices against the girl child must stop.
