Why to cite your sources • Practice legal and ethical behavior when using technology. (Essential Skill DM-5) • AVOID Plagiarism • Plagiarism is using someone else’s intellectual property (ideas, words, images, etc.) without giving credit to the source. • Build trust between you and the reader of your work • To make your arguments more trustworthy • To show you've spent the time thinking about the information about your topic • To show the references that led to the creation of your paper • To allow the reader to find the sources for themselves
Bibliography: Citing Sources • APA Style • American Psychological Association • Commonly used to cite sources within the social sciences. • Information to Gather—list can be found in your assignment packet • NoodleTools • Choose citation style for your project. (APA format for Health Project)Select your citation type from the drop down arrow where it says Cite a: • Click Create Citation. • Fill out the information for your source as completely as you can. Ask for help if needed. • Click Submit. • Copy and paste your citation into your Word document. • Format your Word document correctly for APA Reference page. Bibliography: Basic Formatting Rules • Label the page “Bibliography” (do not bold, italicize or underline the title) • Center the title • Sources should be listed in alphabetical order by author’s last name • If there is no author, the title of the article comes first. • Ask for help if you have more than one work by the same author. • Do NOT number, bullet, or letter the source list! • Double space everything on the page. • There should be no extraspaces between sources. • Italicize the title of the source if it is a book, journal/magazine, or database. • Hanging Indent – indent the second line of the citation (tab every line after the first) • Think of this as the opposite of paragraph indents. • Note that if you edit or change the format (like font size), the line may end in a different spot than before and you may have to reformat the hanging indent.
