Exploration & Reflection of the 2.0 Learning Ecosystem Map From the perspectives of home, school and community; we will reflect on 3 questions. What are some things that are new to you? What peaks your interest most about the School 2.0 Learning Ecosystem? What might you add to the ecosystem?
What are some things that are new to you? Home Perspective… Technology has simplified many things at home… Professor’s can submit grades from home computers. Communication between parents & teachers can be done via email. Classes can even be taken online from home.
School perspective continued… • Students have more interactive involvement in their own • education…(blogs, power points, white boards, personal • online assessments… • Class Web Page http://www.manatee.k12.fl.us/sites/elementary/wakeland • Digital games that assist in learning. • Monitoring student performance is made more efficient.
Community Perspective… Data & statistics from ones community are gathered with greater efficiency. Network infrastructure is throughout the community. The entire community is intertwined by technology. (interoperable data, applications, networks & devices)
What peaks your interest most about the School 2.0 Learning Ecosystem? • Home Perspective: • Internet Radio Projects • Computer training classes on Saturdays for families • Direct connection to the teacher through technology
School’s Perspective • Opportunities for Collaboration for inside and beyond school buildings • Visualization programs such as www.brainpop.com • Electronic assistance for the ESE students. • Ability to show experiments on the projector for everyone to see • Instant feedback. • Ability to share student information throughout the whole school.
Community Perspective • Growth of computer knowledge in the community • Instant feedback on growth of the student • Collaboration between the school and the community will grow
What might you add to the ecosystem? • When technology is introduced into any aspect of a community, may that be school, home or the office, many doors are opened, creating new opportunities. • You can clearly see this through the teacher 2.0 site, but there is more that can be introduced because creativity is endless when you have technology. • One way to add to the ecosystem is to learn more about other cultures and expand in international communications.
Math Day! • With computers and other devices it makes it possible to interact with others around the world INSTANTLY. • One thing that can be added to the ecosystem is to have international subject days (ex. Math) where students can compete with other students in the same grade around the world!
International Cuisines • Some people have already experienced cooking virtually, but what if their was a school assignment where you and another team in another country had to prepare a meal for that country? • Students would learn math skills (measurements) • Students would learn about other cultures.
Music from around the world • Music is a international language that can create many emotions. • Just imagine recording a song with your guitar, then sending that piece over to India so that student could add in a sitar! • Music class will never be the same.
Final thoughts & insights… Education isn’t reserved for the classroom just like technology isn’t reserved for the business world. The more prevalent technology becomes the greater it’s influence is on the community as a whole. The greater influence on the community the larger and more diverse the schools grow and become, making each student a well rounded member of society.
